They spend heavily on marketing to acquire new customers, just like banks, credit cards, and fintech apps do. Instead of paying for billboards or ads, they’re choosing to pay college students directly to try their product.
- Q: Will checking my credit score hurt my credit?
A: No. This uses a soft credit check, which means it does not affect your credit score.
- Q: When do I get paid, and how does payout work?
A: You’ll receive 1,000 SoFi reward points, which equals $10 directly in your SoFi account. These points appear in your SoFi rewards balance.
- Q: Do I have to be a current college athlete to qualify?
A: No. You do not need to be a current athlete. You just need an active .edu email address and must be a new SoFi user.

- To qualify for the $30 SoFi welcome bonus, you must open a SoFi® Checking and Savings account with a .edu email and deposit at least $10 within 5 days of opening.
